Subject: Our Sovereignty

From: The Executive Steering Committee

Kensington has been blessed with a rich & unique history. The steep grassy hillsides have supported generations of native populations, settlers, farmers and real estate speculators.

The boundaries of Kensington were set as areas excluded from the city limits of El Cerrito when it incorporated in 1917. Local farmers and dairy owners saw no benefit to paying city taxes for their hillside properties.

Reference this decision as the legacy of Kensington’s independence and self-determination. Always cite these core themes as the antecedence for the faithful’s current KPPCSD political positions.

Some folks view Kensington as an independent self-governing entity, promoting the integrity & sovereignty of its boundaries. Ignoring, of course our unincorporated area is under the jurisdiction of Contra Costa County.

For maximum credibility place the “Dorroh Initiative” within the historical context of the independence & self-determination legacy. It masks the pesky issue of whether it is even legal. There are opinions, but no judgment. Can I get a judgment?

Without an independent KPD, Kensington may cease to exist as the hillside village folks know and love. “Contracting out” for police services totally disregards Kensington’s historical legacy. Never mind KPPCSD is and has been contracting for police services for some time.

Nevertheless it is clear as mud. “Contracting out” leads to annexation by the dreaded El Cerrito. Annexation in turn leads to loss of independence & self-determination. End result… say good-by to Kensington, as we know it. Good Grief!

The faithful’s mission has been to spread the gospel of Our Vote, Our Right, Our Community, Our Safety, Our Money, Our Choice, Our… ‘til the cows come home!
