Your M&M Part II / Memo to the 600 Club Faithful

“Well I’ll be!” The handlers over at Headquarters came up with a real humdinger for the M&M’s campaign introductory flyer.
With no real M&M governing experience or achievements to hype, the plan is to just echo old guard obstructionist positions with a few new twists. How about the endorsement from the CA Democratic Party! Just disregard all notions its relevance is debatable.
Right out of the gate with the first sentence we go on attack and label the KPPCSD Board as being “too complacent”.
Next we take a shot at contracting for police services. While many times it is less costly, refer to it as a real gamble and likely to have rising costs. Drag out the old chestnut about being the safest community in the state for 50 years. Ah heck, go on and say over 50 years!
The capper is that we claim the 50+ year safety record is a result of our police department! On top of that we quote the Matrix report itself about their recommendation being close to what we had a few years ago. Even though the 1 to 1 staff supervision was more costly! Throw in some buzz words like “integrated solution to modernizing” for spicing up the district admin & police services.
Everybody is talking about disaster prep, so we have to address the topic. Cleverly position the M&M team as being a victim of “fear mongering”. Why? Because the M&Ms are advocating for “robust emergency planning”. Doesn’t that have a nice ring to it, “robust emergency planning”. The police board doesn’t even have a plan for heaven sake never mind a nifty plan name.
More importantly, there is a FEMA grant money opportunity and if we don’t hurry we’ll miss the 5-year window for applications. It could be very “robust” grant money, if you know what I’m saying. Can I get an amen?
As you know the current board can’t see the forest for the trees when it comes to funding. Look at the seismic retrofit of the Community Center project it has a $350,000 shortfall. Don’t bother to mention a loan is in the works.
We need the KPPCSD and KFD Boards “marching in lockstep”. So the KPPCSD can go lock stepping to the bank to access money from the KFD savings account. A word of caution, never use the word “consolidation” when talking about the two districts. The word carries a lot of “robust” old baggage.
Besides failing to see the forest for the trees, the Board obviously has put the cart before the horse and left the barn door wide open! What in tarnation are they doing tinkering with the administrative structure of the district? Why go around changing what has worked for over 60+ years?
“Integrated restructuring” is what is needed. Sure the payroll is still done by hand, job descriptions and responsibilities are vague and the non-existent filing system needs work. But the entire package of change should be integrated, affordable and sustainable, “robustly” gosh darn it!
Last topic is traffic safety. Since we don’t have much to say about it, let’s just note everyone knows community wide traffic control planning has not taken place yet. Throw in there should be a push for more “Robust traffic control” and hit the road.
Close with a “Sincerely” salutation and the M&M’s names. Use a faux handwriting typestyle for the salutation and M&M’s names to project authenticity. Then, as they say in the UK,… “and Paul’s your uncle”.
“Politics has got so expensive that it takes lots of money to even get beat with.”
