Subject: Vacant Board Seat
From: The Memo Desk

Wanted: A Kensingtonian to fill a vacant seat on the Kensington Police Protection & Community Services District Board.

Requirements: Must be in rigid lockstep with the Saving Kensington’s Future gospel. No police/public safety work experience or knowledge is required. Extra points for anyone who is familiar with filing lawsuits and/or has served on previous iterations of old unrepentant Boards.

Current best guess of front runner for the position:

This person is a long-time resident and has been involved with the KPPCSD in various positions. While serving on the Board one of her achievements was hiring the infamous Chief Harmon, of the Renogate fiasco. In 2017 she earned $80,180 regular pay plus $5,150 in OT for a total of about $85,330. And that was for a part-time district administrator position! In 2018, she threatened to file a lawsuit against the KPPCSD because her job description was changed requiring a higher skill level and education. The matter was settled for $43,500, plus attorney’s fees. Can taxpayers afford her on the KPPCSD Board?

The Kensington Fire Protection Board continues to stumble along with Jim Watt’s ill-conceived plan to stall the Public Safety Building remodel, thereby risking breaking construction agreements, increasing the project costs and the risk of lawsuits. The KFPD Board’s apparent lack of basic knowledge about the remodel project they are overseeing puts the entire PSB at risk. Good grief mate!

She might fit in with the other KPPCSD Directors who embrace the Save Kensington Future’s dream of cramming two modern public safety departments into a vintage 1970 building. And failing to pursue common sense alternatives like the Unitarian Church parking area with utilities, communications and site work already completed. Or the modular building already outfitted for modern police work. She would make a great addition to the KPPCSD Board…if a recipe for disaster was your cup of tea.

One can only wonder who the SKF “Thought Leaders” may select. The SKF folks have a deep bench so we will see how it plays out. Safe to say, it won’t be someone who would continue to support and build on the reforms and improvements the previous reform KPPCSD Board has made. (Sigh…)

Note: Satire alert, Saving Kensington’s future seems to require disregarding the past.
