Fears of the annexation of Kensington by the dreaded El Cerrito and Kensington ceasing to exist are back from the dead, dressed up as a “news item”. Holy Lazarus!

A self-appointed town crier posted a clever “news item” about a KPPCSD Board Director speaking with an El Cerrito City Council member at a candidates forum. The “news item” claimed Director Eileen Nottoli said it’s fine with her if Kensington ceases to exist. Oy vey!

As you know, it is campaign season and Eileen Nottoli is running for re-election. The town crier posted the story about Nottoli’s alleged remark on ND. Verification of the story? Just ask the Director Nottoli for yourself, the Director’s email contact was included in the post.

Surely there are those who participated in the on-line conversation and will claim Director Nottoli never said it was fine by her if Kensington ceased to exist. And no doubt her supporters will say it was a cheap attempt to smear the Director.

Then there is the question about the appropriateness of posting the “news item” on the general feed instead of in a group since some described it as “campaigning”. Per ND rules & regs “campaigning” posts on the general feed are totally verboten.

Thank God the smartest guy in the room waded into the fray. As the arbitrator of all truth he determined the post was not “campaigning”. He ruled the event and what was allegedly said was absolutely news worthy. Is he with ND?

Since the smartest guy in the room considers it acceptable to support falsehoods masquerading as news, should we be concerned? With Kensington at risk, is this really the time to be circulating falsehoods?
