For Immediate Release

Here at headquarters we are still reeling from the recent KPPCSD special meeting on Monday night. Our herculean efforts to get our candidate Dr. David Spath appointed to fill the board vacancy came up short.

In light of this major setback the faithful are encouraged to “Put Kensington First” and take up the challenge to educate the citizens of Kensington of the dangers that now lie ahead.

One of the big KPPCSD issues coming up concerns the investigation of contracting for police services as opposed to maintaining our existing police department. There are elements in our community who wish to move toward contracting with an outside agency for our police services. Needless to say, all true Kensingtonians have been, are, and will be opposed to this idea.

Think of it, an outside professional police force would be responsible for the safety of our community. While a contracted police force may have better training and resources, bigger personnel pool to insure full staffing and specialized HR and investigation departments, is it right for Kensington?

As always, encourage folks to consider all the facts and approach our problems with an open mind. But it is best to be selective when considering “all the facts”. Do we need to bring up the cavalcade of inept police chiefs including Garfield, Harman and Hart that all came highly recommended by the past KPPCSD boards? And let’s not dwell on the facts surrounding the extracurricular “missteps” of some of our police officers in Reno and Berkeley. Remember, some facts are better left un-considered.

At Monday night’s meeting a local scientist unloaded a stream of visceral personal attacks on the KPPCSD board’s choice of Chris Deppe to fill the vacant position. He finished up by announcing, “someone had to say it” as if to somehow justify his verbal attack. To long time Kensingtonians it was just like old times, firing off vicious personal attacks at anyone holding opposing views. So take a cue from the scientist and do not pass up an opportunity to indulge in a little character assassination.

And finally as we all recognize, only long-term residents of Kensington know what is in the best interest for all of Kensington. When reaching out to folks to explain our positions do not hesitate to mention how many years you have lived in Kensington. Your years in Kensington speak volumes about your credibility.
