Anyone who has attended/viewed the last few Kensington Fire Protection District Board meetings might have noticed one elder Save Kensington’s Future Director taking up an inordinate amount of meeting time to discuss his plan to locate the police within the remodeled Public Safety Building. (…groan)

The SKF Director has been focused on working and reworking a preliminary floor plan he has devised and is intended to illustrate the police department can fit into the 1205 sq. ft space on the 1st floor of the remodeled PSB. And it is done with no input from the Kensington Police Protection & Community Services District nor the Kensington Police Dept. He has justified taking up so much meeting time by claiming it is fulfilling the consultant Ridgeline’s requirement for the district to provide basic layouts and costs for such a plan.

With this information Ridgeline will prepare a fiscal analysis of the KFPD and KPPCSD as independent districts. This is part of Ridgeline’s study to investigate if consolidation would be of any benefit for Kensington in the future.

To make that happen, the other KFPD Directors need to corral the elder SKF Director and stop him from making endless modifications to his ill-conceived floor plan. At the last KFPD meeting concern was expressed about the possible inappropriate process of one director continuing to give instructions to the architect for additional work instead of a request coming from the board.

Of course, the SKF Director didn’t see it that way, and in fact he was displeased that he was “cut off” by the president while he was “in the middle” (!) of explaining the need for yet another floor plan tweak. Even the architect (Marjang) who was tasked with revising the floor plan noted that the KPPCSD should be consulted before making the tweak to the floor plan.

Perhaps the KFPD Directors should stop accommodating the elder SKF Director’s impulse to continue with his endless iterations of a cramped floor plan to fit the police department into the PSB. While his experience in construction finance is valued, his talents for work space planning are less so. Lordy me…is he just a one issue SKF Director?
