Some folks in our community are all hyped up on slowing down the Public Safety Building remodel project. An organization called “Save Kensington’s Future” (copyright 2022) has been set up to spearhead the effort. Judging by the steering committee members it’s an “Upper Kensington” kind of thing.
The SKF organization is circulating a petition with the hope of “pausing” the PSB remodel project. The SKF want the KFPD & KPPCSD to engage the community and rethink options, including revisiting creative ways to house the KFD & KPD together. Community engagement over these past years has produced little the SKF folks like. Rethinking options and revisiting creative ways is a clear sign the SKF folks lack any real solutions.
Another “want” is protecting the Kensington Park for community recreation uses only. The “want” also includes knowing the unknowable; the total cost of combined plans for protecting the park, youth programs and police services before KFPD Board starts the PSD remodel project. Isn’t it like asking how many angels can dance on the head of a pin?
If we are interested in saving Kensington’s future then we need to start thinking as one KFPD director put it, “outside the box”. With that in mind the solution may be found in the wish to preserve the park for recreational use. Combine that with the concern for the tax payers dollars and the solution is; … the Building E Casino, “the Recreation Building”.
This being Kensington, it may be a giant step for some folks but it addresses a lot of the concerns of the SKF followers. Forget the police in Building E, that is never going to happen anyway. The Building E casino plan would engage the community, bring in much needed cash and best of all honor the recreational use of the park. Park originalists, rejoice!
A casino in Building E, “the Recreation Building”, would provide recreational opportunities for the entire community. Think what a plus it would be to have a local casino within walking distance to all of serene Upper Kensington. Kensington would be breaking new ground with this totally unique amenity! Practitioners of the real estate arts, rejoice!
The casino would offer educational opportunities as well. There could be classes on the many types of gaming, how to count cards and how to start a career in the gaming industry. Children and young adults could learn from direct experience about the evils of gambling and its many associated vices. The educational possibilities are truly endless!
The Building E Casino just may prove to be the key to saving Kensington’s future. You betcha!
“All the evidence shows that God was actually quite a gambler, and the universe is a great casino, where dice are thrown, and roulette wheels spin on every occasion.” (Stephen Hawking)
Note: Caution; saving Kensington’s future triggers far reaching ramifications. Satire alert.
