Fact Check Chuck
Chuck had some interesting things to say at the Candidate’s Forum on September 24th, so we emailed some flyers describing what Chuck said and what actually happened.

Number 1:
“The board knows how to fire a Chief when it’s time, and it’s done it.” – Chuck Toombs
The tough talk of incumbent Chuck Toombs at the candidate’s forum doesn’t quite reflect the actual history of the board’s “firing” of its Chief of Police. The reason Toombs’ comment was met with laughter from the audience is because in the wake of the Reno scandal outraged citizens demanded that the KPPCSD board fire Chief of Police Greg Harman, but the board only voted to discontinue contract negotiations with him. As for board member Toombs, his was the only vote to continue the negotiations. Here’s a copy of the minutes:

Number 2:
“… I think that’s the only way you can run a campaign, not to accept monies from people you are supervising, that’s just the way it has to be.”
However he has done so. Here is the relevant page from his FPPC disclosure form for the 2012 election where Chuck and Pat accepted $990.00 from the KPOA:

“You know I’ve been sitting here listening and I wonder if I live in the same community as some of my candidates who are running against me here. I don’t think that I do because I have a totally different perspective on how this community functions and I think it functions very well…”
